SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

YOUNG CAADRIA AWARDS

Young CAADRIA Awards are funded by CAADRIA, given by a committee organized by the Site Coordinator and will be decided by them after acceptance of papers. Awards will be applied to conference registration fees after full papers are accepted. Awards are not transferable (e.g. awardees can not assign them to co-authors). More information is available here.

  1. Open to full or part time registered students (Ph.D or Masters or undergraduate)
  2. Chosen before conference, winners exempt from paying registration
  3. Student applies for award if the abstract is selected for a paper presentation and is awarded on the basis of the CV provided.
  4. Chosen on merit of abstract, contribution and relevance to CAADRIA and demonstrated depth of research interest
  5. Can win the award more than once, chosen on merit of work
  6. Criteria:
    • Clarity of concept
    • Understanding of context
    • Quality of writing
    • Strength of research in CV
    • Applicability to the wider architectural research
    • Typically only one student per university per year (in order to spread awards around).

ROUNDTABLE TOPICS

Submit a brief proposal (maximum 2 pages) via email to Paper Selection Committee <roundtable@caadria-paper.org>.

POSTGRADUATE CONSORTIUM

The Consortium provides postgraduate students with an opportunity to discuss their study with other students and researchers. The CAADRIA Postgraduate Student Consortium and the Young CAADRIA Award continues CAADRIA's commitment to support young researchers. The Consortium will be held within special time slots during the conference. Students will give a presentation providing an overview of theirwork and results to date. Student participants will have the chance to discuss their research in an informal session with peers and academics.

Aims

  1. Provide a supportive setting for feedback on students' current research and guidance on future research directions.
  2. Offer each student comments and fresh perspectives on their work from faculty and students outside their own institution.
  3. Promote the development of a supportive community of scholars and a spirit of collaborative research.
  4. Contribute to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and conference events.
  5. To network with colleagues of similar background or interests.

Applying to the CAADRIA Postgraduate Student Consortium

Submissions are invited from current postgraduate students who would benefit from detailed workshop discussions of their research by a panel of established researchers. Applications should be made online and should consist of:

  1. an extended abstract or full paper(see below)
  2. a one-page curriculum vitae (attached to the end of the paper)

Extended Abstract

Submit a two-page extended abstract or a full paper of your thesis work, including: title, author information, abstract, keywords, thesis research summary, and references. This extended abstract, if accepted for the Consortium, will be the base of the discussion at the Consortium and will be open for attendance to all conference delegates. The extended abstract should clearly specify:

  1. problem(s) that the research is addressing
  2. research question(s) you are trying to answer
  3. expected contribution(s)
  4. proposed solution(s) and methodology
  5. current status, and of a tentative plan for future work.

Review Criteria

  1. Originality of the work with respect to current concepts and techniques
  2. Importance of the work with respect to fundamental issues and themes
  3. Rigor and validity of claims, argumentation,methodology, results, and interpretations
  4. Clarity and persuasiveness of expression.

Participants in the consortium will be selected by the CAADRIA Postgraduate Student Consortium Committee. Due to the nature of the consortium, submissions from students in the beginning and middle of their dissertation process will be weighed more favorably than those finishing up.

PAPERS

  1. In the first phase, submit abstracts of up to 500 words in length. Note that online submission form has space to directly type in paper abstract and keywords. No file is to be uploaded or attached in this stage. All abstracts will undergo review by paper selection committee. Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit full papers.
  2. In the second phase, authors should submit papers by via online file upload. Long Papers should be 8 pages (about 3500 words) and Short Papers should be 6 pages (about 2500 words) in length. All papers (long and short) will undergo an international triple blind reviews and should not contain any information that may identify the author(s) and their institution(s). To format papers authors must use the CAADRIA paper formatting guidelines or template. Failure to do so may lead to rejection of the paper
  3. In the third phase, final revised papers must be submitted with proper formatting by the due date. See CAADRIA paper formatting guidelines. At least one paper author must register to the confernce by the time final paper is submitted. All accepted papers (long and short) will be published in the proceedings.
